Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday emphasized that Pakistan seeks peace and stable relations with all its neighbours, warning that extremism and terrorism pose serious threats to regional security and development.
Addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Beijing, he praised China’s achievements, crediting President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership for promoting global cooperation and strong leadership across multilateral initiatives.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, dialogue, and diplomacy, stating that sovereignty and territorial integrity are of utmost importance for every nation and must be respected in international relations.
He stressed that Pakistan respects the sovereignty of SCO members and neighbouring countries while abiding by all international and bilateral agreements, and highlighted the strategic importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for both nations.
PM Shehbaz condemned Israel’s aggression in Gaza and Iran, calling it unacceptable, and strongly voiced support for a two-state solution for Palestinians as approved by the United Nations, urging peace and justice.
He also addressed terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing evidence of foreign involvement in attacks such as the Jaffar Express incident, and warned perpetrators of severe punishment for their crimes.
The prime minister concluded by honoring Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, noting the loss of over 90,000 lives including civilians, officers, engineers, and doctors, for the security of both the region and the world.
